An attorney for Justice and his wife, Cathy, entered into a joint motion for consent judgment with the federal government Monday, the same day that the government filed a lawsuit saying that the couple "have neglected or refused to make full payment" for the income taxes dating to 2009. An attorney for the U.S. Justice Department's tax division signed off on the agreement.

A high-court claim that had pitted the leading sports agent Jonathan Barnett against his former business partners, Olympic medallists John Regis and Jennifer Stoute, was withdrawn following an extraordinary three-year legal battle. MARTINEZ A lawsuit led by Contra Costa County District Attorney Diana Becton and San Mateo County District Attorney Stephen Wagstaffe against three pesticide companies accused of violating state laws in their disposal of hazardous waste and private information has been settled for $3.15 million. Becton announced the settlement in a statement Wednesday. The lawsuit she and Wagstaffe led against Clark Pest Control of Stockton, Orkin Services of California, and Crane Pest Control also included district attorneys in Alameda, Santa Clara, Solano and Sonoma counties.

Los Angeles county will pay $20m to the family of a four-year-old boy who was tortured to death by his parents six years ago in a case that brought scrutiny of the region's child welfare system. Swiss banking giant UBS will pay €835million to settle a long-running French legal case over helping wealthy clients dodge taxes, the group and French authorities have said. UBS will pay a €730million fine and €105million in damages to the French state to close the 14-year legal saga. "UBS AG is pleased to announce it has resolved the legacy matter concerning its cross-border business activities in France between 2004 and 2012," the bank said in a statement.

32-year-old Jasmine Gao became the victim of an officer-involved shooting 0n November 19, 2024 in the parking lot of Union City Station, and the earliest reports about the incident were confusing. BART said that Gao had assaulted a BART police officer, but a subsequent release of bodyworn camera footage from the incident showed that no assault occurred.
