Washington, 73, was hired to manage the Angels leading up to the 2024 season but spent a good chunk of 2025 away from the team after undergoing quadruple bypass heart surgery and was told he would not return at season's end. Now Washington, who stated near the end of the season he was in good health and expressed a desire to continue managing, will join the staff of rookie manager and longtime Tennessee Volunteers coach Tony Vitello.

Willy Adames became the first player in a Giants uniform to slug 30 home runs since Barry Bonds, and Rafael Devers anchored the lineup with a combined 35 homers between San Francisco and Boston, but neither player was the club's lone finalist for a Silver Slugger award. The honor belonged to Matt Chapman, who was passed over when Gold Glove finalists were announced earlier this month but is being recognized for his bat.

Chapman had faced a suspension and an undisclosed fine after he made contact with Rockies pitcher Kyle Freeland. Chapman, Freeland and Giants shortstop Willy Adames were ejected following the first-inning fracas during San Francisco's 7-4 win at Coors Field, then Chapman led the Giants past the Rockies 10-8 a night later - playing the game as the appeal was considered.

He missed nearly a month due to that injury, and after being activated in early July he hit just .200/.290/.365 over 31 games before heading back to the IL due to his ailing hand. Chapman received a cortisone shot during this latest stint on the shelf, and both he and the Giants are surely hoping he'll be able to hit more like his first half self (.243/.360/.452 in 65 games) going forward.
