Retro, a friend-focused, photo-sharing app with roughly a million users, is adding a new feature that lets you time-travel through your old photo memories from your phone's Camera Roll. While the app today offers a way to share photos of what's happening during your week with a private group of friends, or create shared albums, this latest addition, dubbed "Rewind," is private to you - unless you choose to share the photos with others.

The first of these enhancements is Memories, which allows Le Chat to learn from previous interactions and refer back to previous insights, decisions and references. According to Mistral AI, this will help to "ensure continuity and deeper understanding over time".

The data retention, already available from rivals like OpenAI and Anthropic, allows the company's AI chatbot to be more helpful by storing stated preferences and details about past interactions to guide future responses. Personalization of this sort poses the same potential privacy concern as it does for search and advertising. The inadvertent exposure of user prompts containing personal info has already posed problems for various AI services and affected users.
