The Trump administration has cut over 157 open roles at the San Francisco Veterans Affairs Medical Center and outpatient clinics across the Bay Area. They warned that cuts will weaken the VA health care system by translating into higher strain on the medical center in the form of "longer wait times, heavier patient loads, reduced services and increased safety risks for the veterans who rely on the VA for care". The nationwide cuts were announced in December, targeting positions that have been vacant for at least a year. The VA has argued that the dissolution of these positions will not negatively affect care.
In a "healing and recovery effort" announcement Monday, Brown President Christina Paxson said that all injured students had been released from the hospital. Previously, one person who suffered gunshot wounds was listed in critical but stable condition, which improved Thursday, five days after the shooting. A campus-wide service is being planned for late January, Paxson said, to remember Cook and Umurzokov.
The volunteer-run gift shop has gone through a refresh over the last year. They are inviting guests to explore the updated space, which includes new signage, seasonal decor and expanded product offerings. The open house will also feature live music, refreshments and giveaways. The anniversary festivities will start on Oct. 22 with a special Holiday Sneak Peek from 9-11 a.m.
The second annual Star Chefs food and beverage pairing event to benefit Momentum for Health, held on Sept 21 at the Glass House in downtown San Jose, was anchored by the amazing talent of 17 local chefs from San Jose to Palo Alto. They teamed up with local beverage providers to create an afternoon of convivial culinary competition all to benefit the 65-year-old organization that provides mental health services for Santa Clara County residents.
