Banks had been in prison since 1982 after shooting 14 people, and killing 13, including his own children, during a rampage in Wilkes-Barre. At time, it was considered one of the worst mass murders in American history. He was convicted of 12 counts of first-degree murder and one count of third-degree murder. Banks had been drinking at a party late at night before using an AR-15 rifle to start the rampage at his home.

Two men have been charged with murder after the death in prison of the former Lostprophets singer and convicted child sex offender Ian Watkins. Rashid Gedel, 25, and Samuel Dodsworth, 43, have both been charged with murder and will appear before Leeds magistrates' court on Monday morning, West Yorkshire police said. Watkins, 48, was serving a 29-year sentence at HMP Wakefield, with a further six years to be served on licence, after admitting a string of sex offences including the attempted rape of a baby.

The Ukrainian national was 37. He was convicted at the Old Bailey in October 2013 of murdering Muslim man Mohammed Saleem, 82, in April of that year. Saleem was a pillar of the local community who was on his way home from evening prayers at the mosque when Lapshyn stabbed him three times in the back and stamped on his head.
