"The museum is a vast monochromatic monolith, and I wanted the installation to be colorful and uplifting, and to signify the welcoming of the tapestry to the museum," Sturgeon said in a statement. "The trees reach out towards the street entrance as if beckoning it to enter."
Few arrivals have captured NYC's imagination quite like Dinosaur, the colossal aluminum pigeon by Iván Argote that has perched on the High Line's Spur for the past year and a half. Now, as the viral sculpture prepares to fly the coop in early April, the park is giving its feathered icon a lively New York goodbye.
The sculptures are designed to contrast Manhattan's monumental architecture with imagery drawn from fairy tales, archetypal symbols and dreamlike storytelling. A circular concrete ring forms a defined boundary, incorporating a landing and three steps that lead into a contained field of refined sand. At the center of this ring rises a tall cone clad in polished mirrored steel. Or at least that's what's supposed to happen, as the end result is not really what was suggested in the early concept image sent to other publications. In fact, it's a painted fabric hung over scaffolding and lit from the outside by a handful of spotlights at the bottom.

Of course, the city's annual Christmas makeover isn't complete without its trees - and one of its most beloved, the St Pancras Christmas tree, has just been unveiled.
