Not long ago, the Cowboys boasted one of the most successful defensive backfields in the NFL. The group of Trevon Diggs, DaRon Bland, Jourdan Lewis, Malik Hooker, and Donovan Wilson provided balance, leadership, and big-play potential at every level of the secondary. Diggs emerged as one of the league's premier ballhawks, combining elite instincts with game-breaking speed. Bland followed up with historic production of his own, setting interception records and proving he could line up anywhere.
Carson landed on IR before Week 1 with a hyperextended knee, but returned to practice as soon as he was eligible at the beginning of October. He has been a full participant in practice for the last two weeks and should be full-go on Sunday. Carson's activation comes at a crucial time for the Cowboys. Their defense has allowed the most passing yards per attempt and per game to opposing offenses this year, and they will be without starting cornerback Trevon Diggs this week.
FRISCO, Texas -- As the Dallas Cowboys look to get down to the 53-man roster limit, veteran offensive lineman La'el Collins has been among the players told he will be released, a source told ESPN. Collins joined the Cowboys during training camp after injuries on their offensive line to Tyler Guyton (knee), Rob Jones (neck) and Saahdiq Charles (knee). Collins played right and left tackle during the preseason games.
Dallas Cowboys cornerback Trevon Diggs is not sure if he will be able to play the regular-season opener against the Philadelphia Eagles on Sept. 4, but he might start the season on the 53-man roster anyway. Diggs is currently on the physically unable to perform list and has yet to practice, but he said, "I feel way better than I should feel." Asked about playing Week 1, Diggs said, "Maybe, maybe not."
