The UK wants to limit the number of young people from the EU who come into the country as part of a post-Brexit youth mobility scheme to below 50,000, it has emerged. The EU has already rejected a cap and wants unlimited visas with an annual review on numbers instead, to allow an emergency brake on the scheme if politically desirable.

The government will introduce a bill with a so-called dynamic alignment mechanism that will allow the government to align UK standards as the EU evolves its own rules. This mechanism enables quick implementation of changes without the need for a new bill each time.

Starmer stated, 'Brexit did deep damage to our economy, and the opportunities to strengthen our security and cut the cost of living are simply too big to ignore.'

Sadly, we found that despite progress in some areas, the government's reset is languishing, suffering from a lack of direction, definition and drive. It feels as though we are on a journey with no clear destination. A ferry linking Scotland to Europe could be one step closer to reality after a key border obstacle may be resolved. Ferry operator DFDS is planning on launching a service between the town of Rosyth in Fife, Scotland, and Dunkirk in France, as early as spring 2026, allowing for both passengers and freight to be transported between the countries.

British citizens traveling to the EU will face additional biometric checks at borders with a new system set to be phased in beginning November.
