Wine tasting never felt so cozy. The charm of apres-ski takes a decadent twist at Bricoleur Vineyards in Windsor in a decked-out winter greenhouse overlooking the winery's lake. Set within the rolling dunes of Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, the seven-and-a-half-mile Pierce Stocking Scenic Drive takes travelers through magnificent woodlands, sandy ridges, and sweeping overlooks along the shores of Lake Michigan. The drive honors the late lumberman and conservationist Pierce Stocking and begins just south of Glen Lake before winding upward through thick hardwood forests. During the journey, visitors can stop at 12 viewpoints that showcase the area's diverse scenery.

But which ones are the tastiest of them all? Sunset Magazine, devoted to the culture of the American West, shares some opinions in its recent article, " Here's Where to Sample the Best Food and Wine in the West." In it, Sunset has picked 10 tasting rooms (or appellations with good tasting options), from classic vineyards to producers of zero-proof beverages, that should delight everyone with their delectable offerings, innovative techniques and visually stimulating atmospheres.

That's because before the pandemic, there were nine wineries and one cider maker, while today, there are only four wineries remaining: Woodside Vineyards, Flying Suitcase Wines, Russian Ridge Winery and Domenico Winery and Osteria. Still, each is well worth a visit in its own right, and the four-stop trail offers its own sense of fun and challenge, given most of the them are only open on weekend afternoons. So you'll have to sip zippily to visit all four in one go. Here's what to expect.
