I'm an American who moved to Barcelona. I would've left after a few months if I hadn't fallen in love.
Briefly

Moving from the US to Europe in 2019, I was thrilled yet apprehensive about starting anew. My first stop, Bordeaux, didn't feel right, so I relocated to sunny Barcelona in February 2020. However, the excitement quickly faded as Spain's lockdown due to the pandemic isolated me in my Airbnb. Loneliness set in as I found it hard to make connections. A friend reminded me of my unhappiness in Los Angeles, prompting me to reconsider my views on home versus abroad. Slowly, I began embracing life in Barcelona and regained hope.
As lockdown restrictions were lifted, I started to enjoy daily life in Barcelona, from morning walks on the beach to afternoon strolls to get tapas and sangria.
Over drinks, I told him I wasn't happy and that I'd had enough of living abroad. He reminded me that I wasn't so happy back home, either.
