I immediately accepted my kid's new name but accidentally deadnamed her on a trip. My teen thankfully took it in stride, and I hope that's because she feels my support.
It was our second day in Berlin. I asked my kid if she wanted to go... I was mortified. It was easily the fifth time I deadnamed her since we arrived.
I was relieved. It wasn't that long ago that hearing 'Annika' would've upset her. My kid is supported no matter her name.
After not long at all, Nico just sounded right to me. When I look at my child, I see Nico.
