Faicco's Pork Store received a New York State Senate Proclamation recognizing more than a century of family-run culinary tradition. New York state Sen. Stephen T. Chan visited the 11th Avenue shop on Dec. 6 and joined three generations of the Faicco family and longtime customers for the celebration. The business began in the early 1900s on Elizabeth Street in Manhattan and relocated to Brooklyn in 1943 under Eduardo's son Joseph. The shop continues to prepare sausages, roasts and cured meats by hand using old-world techniques and working without preservatives or shortcuts. Holiday lines and a 1975 New York Times profile broadened the shop's reputation beyond Dyker Heights.
