Woman Killed By Driver As She Crossed Brooklyn Street, Police Say

In Brooklyn, a tragic incident occurred where 68-year-old Maurette Lafleur died after being hit by a car while crossing the street. The accident took place at around 6 p.m. on Rutland Road, where Lafleur was in a marked crosswalk. The driver of the vehicle, a 2025 Mercedes-Benz GLC, was making a left turn from East 95th Street and remained at the scene. Emergency services transported Lafleur to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead. The police have not filed any charges yet, and the case is still under investigation.
The victim, Maurette Lafleur, was crossing from north to south on Rutland Road in a marked crosswalk around 6 p.m. when she was struck by a 2025 Mercedes-Benz GLC making a left turn from East 95th Street.
EMS responded and transported the pedestrian to NYC Health and Hospitals/Kings County, where she was later pronounced dead.
The 64-year-old driver of the Mercedes-Benz remained at the scene and no charges have been filed as of Thursday evening, police said.
An investigation remains ongoing by the NYPD Highway District's Collision Investigation Squad.
