Cruise, General Motors’ self-driving unit, plans to resume robotaxi operations in California this fall after a year-long suspension due to a pedestrian accident.
The testing will involve a small scale with a maximum of five vehicles equipped with test drivers, focusing on development work in Sunnyvale and Mountain View.
The fallout from the October accident included the resignation of founder Kyle Vogt and significant layoffs, leading GM to cut back its ambitions and spending on Cruise.
Despite setbacks, GM remains committed to Cruise, funding it with $850 million in June and planning to secure additional funding by early 2025.
