Dolcezza gelateria, founded by Violeta Edelman and Robb Duncan, stems from a transformative experience in the Amazon rainforest. Their journey began after consuming ayahuasca tea, leading them to Argentina's rich gelato culture. In 2004, they opened Dolcezza in Georgetown, focusing on seasonal, locally-sourced ingredients. Despite facing challenges during the pandemic that forced the closure of five locations, the duo is now poised for growth with plans for a sixth location. Their brand uniquely combines culinary creativity with personal anecdotes, making each gelato flavor an experience.
"You drink it, and you have a very deep, existential experience... There are some hardcore lessons that you get," Duncan recalls from the 10-night conference 22 years ago, where he first met and fell in love with Edelman.
"The pandemic was so brutal, and it took us a second to feel like the business was strong enough to continue expanding. Now it feels like we're in a good place again, so we're trying to grow again and see how it goes," says Edelman.
