The Drop-Stop pavilion in Wenzhou, China, innovatively reinterprets traditional East Asian architecture by turning eaves into a space that invites rainwater inside. Designed by aptdotapt studio, the pavilion features transparent glass tiles that create a play of light and shadow, enhancing the visitor experience. Positioned near Yandang Mountain, it serves as the first stop on a scenic route, designed to enrich the journey with pauses and reflections. The pavilion’s mirrored pools allow visitors to engage with flowing water, fostering a connection between the self and the natural environment.
Amid the grandeur of the mountain ranges, we sought to create pauses, like commas and semicolons in a piece of writing, to punctuate and enrich the experience.
Drop-Stop was conceived as a starting point of the journey, allowing natural elements to resonate with the structure's elevation and design.
The pavilion invites visitors to engage with water, enabling them to touch falling raindrops and watch as they ripple in stainless-steel pools.
The interplay of light, shadow, and reflection created by the transparent glass tiles enriches the aesthetic experience of the Drop-Stop pavilion.
