Fast Food Is Fatal for French Youth

In the past, some of the French made disparaging remarks about the typical American diet and the prevalence of corpulence across the Atlantic Ocean. Now, they are eating their own words! Fast-food restaurants are taking France by storm, including the very hamburger restaurants that they used to spurn.
There was a time when French people could legitimately brag about the health-promoting character of French fare and criticized American fast food as a factor in problems of overweight and obesity. Now, the French have less to brag about.
Inactivity associated with screen time is one key factor. Sedentary youngsters are also vulnerable to fast food, as the French are discovering, modern environments have the potential to sicken us because they expose us to novel challenges.
This faith in fine food seemed justified in decades past when the French public looked askance at corpulent American tourists. Now, the French feel oppressed by a fast-food invasion that is trampling over their fine cuisine.
