Train drivers on the Elizabeth line are set to strike on four days in late February and early March over a pay dispute with the operator, MTR. The Aslef union, representing almost all drivers, has called for the action after members overwhelmingly voted for it. General Secretary Mick Whelan criticized MTR for failing to recognize the significant contributions of train drivers. The Elizabeth line, launched in May 2022, is a critical transit artery in London, serving around 800,000 passengers daily. MTR will be succeeded by Tokyo Metro in May.
aslef blamed the operator, MTR, for the dispute. The union's general secretary, Mick Whelan, said: Our members have been instrumental in the success of the Elizabeth line... but, despite our best efforts, MTR has decided not to recognise the input, the importance, and the value of train drivers in this success.
MTR is due to be succeeded as the operator of the line by Tokyo Metro in May.
