Police were originally called to Putney Bridge at around 7.20am today to reports of a concern for welfare, leading to the bridge's closure for hours.
The bridge was shut both ways, causing congestion to Putney High School and back along Putney Hill, Fulham High Street and Fulham Palace Road.
Officers eventually arrested a man, aged 42, for causing public nuisance; he has since been taken to custody.
