Los Angeles Fire Department crews responded around 5:30 a.m. to a South Los Angeles home where a detached garage was fully involved with fire and explosions. Flames and fireworks rose above the property as firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze. Los Angeles Police Department investigators recovered large quantities of illegal fireworks from the Jefferson Park location and found a man dead at the scene. Authorities said it remains unclear whether the fire caused the death or whether the man died before the fire began. Video showed fireworks exploding above the home and injuries to an elderly man and a woman. Illegal fireworks remain a persistent danger in the region, including incidents around Fourth of July celebrations.
