X has announced that select creators will soon be able to upload videos in 4K resolution, enhancing its appeal against competitors like YouTube and Vimeo. Currently, premium subscribers are limited to uploading 1080p videos, but the introduction of 4K uploads may also come with revised size limits. Under Elon Musk's leadership, the platform has been focused on enhancing video content to draw users' attention, including the earlier launch of a vertical video feed amid concerns regarding TikTok's future in the U.S.
X is now allowing select creators to upload videos in 4K resolution as it seeks to boost engagement and keep users from leaving to other platforms.
Until now, paying subscribers could upload 1080p videos up to 8GB in size and roughly three hours in length, but support for 4K resolution uploads is coming.
X has been trying to attract users to post more video content ever since Elon Musk took over, increasing upload limits for subscribers.
The platform rolled out a dedicated feed for vertical videos earlier this year, capitalizing on the uncertainty around TikTok's ban in the U.S.
