Nikita Bier, head of product at X, has announced the cancellation of the EU Commission's advertising account. 'Your advertising account has been closed,' Bier wrote in a post to which he attached another post from the European Commission. The Ad account is an additional account linked to a main account, designed to manage advertising campaigns, and X's announcement came after the European Commission imposed a £120 million fine on the social network on Friday for violating transparency rules.

X's new link experiment on iOS may be artificially inflating traffic. Websites like Substack and Bluesky noticed a sharp increase in "fake" views following the update, something that Nick Eubanks, the VP of owned media at the digital marketing platform Semrush, attributes to a new behavior that preloads content before users click on it. "What's happening here is a classic case of metrics distortion caused by product experimentation at the platform layer," Eubanks tells The Verge.
Currently, users who click links on X are taken to an in-app browser that takes up the full screen. Under the update, which Bier shared in a demo video, clicking on a link instead collapses the post's engagement bar to the bottom of the screen, letting users comment, repost, like, or save from inside the story as they scroll and read.
Elon Musk's AI company, xAI, now has a new chief financial officer: Former Morgan Stanley banker Anthony Armstrong, the Financial Times reported, citing anonymous sources. Armstrong, who previously advised Musk during the Twitter deal, will oversee the finances of both xAI and X, which were merged in April, the report said.
