"Police believe the burglary suspect, who investigators have identified as 32-year-old Jason Williams, may have been using the woman, a complete stranger, as "cover" while he fled the area, a police source with knowledge of the Thursday break-in said."
"Then, as they were outside on the sidewalk, he kissed her every time he saw a car roll by or saw someone walking down the street, a police source said. Detectives suspect someone may have been pursuing Williams, so he thought to use the woman as a sort of shield to direct suspicion away from him."
"Police recovered surveillance footage of Williams on the sidewalk near the home he broke into. At the time of the incident, he was wearing a black-and-white checkered jacket, sporting large headphones and smoking a cigarette, cops said."
A 32-year-old man identified as Jason Williams broke into a 43-year-old woman's Cobble Hill apartment around 1:30 a.m. on Thursday. He forced her outside and repeatedly kissed her on the sidewalk whenever he saw passing cars or pedestrians. Police believe Williams used the woman as a shield to avoid suspicion while fleeing from a potential pursuer. After several moments, he released her and ran away. The victim was unharmed and nothing was stolen. Police released Williams's mugshot and surveillance footage showing him wearing a black-and-white checkered jacket with headphones. He is described as 5-foot-9, approximately 200 pounds, and drives a gray 2018 Honda Accord with Pennsylvania plates.
