City officials said in a statement around 1 p.m. that the state hazmat team was in protective gear at 51 Glendhill Ave. to search the area. The response was to follow up on "reports of an individual disposing of chemicals related to the manufacturing of illicit narcotics at multiple locations around the city," the city said.
They will attempt to identify these substances and, if necessary, mitigate the associated risks," a department spokesperson said in a statement.
The fire department said there was no threat to the public but asked that people avoid the area as work continued at the scene.
Just after 6 p.m., the city said increased official activity in the area was not due to elevated risk to the public.
