On Friday, there was a massive recall of ground beef due to an outbreak of E. coli. A Michigan meatpacking company recalled nearly 84 tons of ground beef after 15 people got sick from potential contamination. The USDA reported that the recalled items included 167,277 pounds of ground beef and hamburger patties. The illnesses were linked to consumption of these products, and the affected individuals reported symptoms such as severe stomach cramps, diarrhea, and vomiting.
The CDC reported that one person has died and over three dozen others were sickened by E. coli infections traced back to fresh carrots sold in 18 states. The infections have been linked to bagged and baby carrots sold by Grimmway Farms, found in major retailers like Walmart, Target, Kroger, and Whole Foods. In light of these events, consumers are cautioned about the safety of their fresh produce.
A deadly listeria outbreak tied to Boar's Head deli meats resulted in 10 deaths and 61 infections across 19 states. The CDC noted that the illnesses were reported from late May to mid-September, indicating a significant health threat associated with these products. Consumers are urged to be vigilant about the origins and safety of deli meats, especially those coming from brands previously linked to such contamination.
