On Sunday, an exhausted Maltese named Hudson was found struggling in the cold East River by a group of NYPD harbor officers. After being spotted by a vigilant 911 caller, Hudson was rescued just moments away from drowning. The officers described the mission as rewarding, emphasizing Hudson's state of despair and exhaustion. With the water temperature at a chilling 43.7°F, rescuers maneuvered the boat close to Hudson, who was unable to swim to safety. The dog was shivering when brought aboard and wrapped in a blanket for warmth.
It seemed seem very tired. When we got close enough to it, you could see it was like slowly pedaling, like it was either too cold or too tired, but it didn't seem like it was going to last much longer.
It was just standing there shivering. We tried it off with some paper towels, and wrapped it up in a blanket.
