The alarm was raised at 2pm on Saturday after Ms Herbst got into difficulty, having entered the sea at Magherabeg Beach while attempting to save her family dog from the choppy waters. Greystones and Wicklow Coast Guard units were tasked to the scene, along with the Dublin-based Coast Guard helicopter R116. A body was recovered from the water at around 4pm and a second person was also rescued from the water and taken to hospital.

Off Beat After initially evading capture, the dog eventually hopped into a waiting police cruiser. A dog made a break down the Ted Williams Tunnel Thursday morning and was promptly scooped up by State Police, according to the Massachusetts Department of Transportation. MassDOT surveillance video shows the black-and-white pooch trotting toward oncoming vehicles before a State Police trooper brings traffic to a standstill to launch a rescue.

"I know my family was very interested in the dog, and I think it's a great opportunity to kind of give her a second chance."

The San Francisco Fire Department advises against entering the water for rescues, emphasizing safety protocols for those witnessing someone in trouble.
