Animal welfare organizations rescued over 40 dogs from deplorable conditions in a Queens apartment, where they had allegedly never been allowed outside. Many dogs were found crammed in closets and behind furniture, showing signs of extreme fear and under-socialization. An investigation by the NYPD's Animal Cruelty Investigation Squad is ongoing. While health assessments are being conducted, the dogs are not available for adoption. Unfortunately, some have had to be euthanized due to their critical conditions.
These dogs have reportedly lived in total confinement for their entire lives," Mercado said in a statement. "We found full-grown Malinois hidden in cabinets and behind furniture, some in closets without any access to fresh air.
Representatives from Animal Care Centers of NYC and the ASPCA retrieved over 40 Belgian Malinois from inside a Forest Hills apartment, many young puppies and fully-grown adults living in squalid conditions.
