Price-gouging complaints about the cost of fuel, water, and hotels are surging in states hit by Hurricane Helene

In South Carolina, the Attorney General's office reported at least 142 price-gouging complaints since Hurricane Helene began, mostly concerning essential goods like hotels and fuel.

Attorney General Alan Wilson warned that while legal price fluctuations are expected, businesses taking advantage of the emergency situation could face legal consequences under state law.
