40% of workers would take pay cuts over returning to the office full time, study says
Briefly

A study by Harvard professors reveals that 40% of employees would accept a pay cut to maintain the ability to work from home instead of returning to the office. Notably, 9% of workers would relinquish 20% of their salary for this flexibility. The willingness to accept salary reductions is higher among remote workers pre-pandemic, college graduates, and those who changed jobs during the pandemic, while older workers valued remote work less. Women and primary caregivers were found to be the most willing to sacrifice pay for remote work opportunities.
A small percentage - 9% - would even be willing to give up 20% of their salary to keep their flexibility over working from the office five days per week.
The highest shares of workers willing to accept a salary reduction were those who worked remotely before the COVID-19 pandemic, had a college degree or changed jobs during the pandemic.
