From the Beatles to attempted murders, this Tahoe hotel has seen it all
Briefly

The Truckee Hotel, built in 1873 and predating the town's incorporation, is a central landmark in Truckee, California. Attracting travelers with its affordable rates starting at $119, it caters to those interested in history, train enthusiasts, and active visitors seeking local experiences. The hotel is impacted by nearby train noise, with up to 25 trains passing daily, yet it thrives. Moody's Bistro below enhances the experience with an upscale dining and live music venue, affirming the hotel's vibrant community role over its long history.
"Our niche is the train customer, the historic customer and the young, active crowd," said JJ Morgan, the hotel's managing partner, who left the Bay Area over 20 years ago to take over.
The Truckee Hotel doesn't break the bank. Rooms start at around $119 - perhaps due to the hotel's noisy neighbors.
Truckee historian Judy DePuy says between 15 and 25 freight trains come through the station per day, without any warning of when they'll arrive.
The base of the hotel is home to Moody's Bistro, Bar & Beats, an upscale restaurant and live music venue featuring a wooden bar, dim lighting and plush booths.
