Lyft is gearing up to introduce fully autonomous robotaxis in Dallas by 2026, as announced by CEO David Risher. These robotaxis will leverage Mobileye technology and be owned by Marubeni, with fleet management facilitated by Lyft's Flex Drive subsidiary. The launch is a significant step in the automated ride-hailing space, coinciding with similar initiatives by Tesla, which plans to begin deploying its Cybercabs in several American cities, and Alphabet’s Waymo, which will also be entering the market soon. More details from Lyft are expected in the coming months.
As soon as 2026, Marubeni-owned cars with Mobileye AV tech will launch in Dallas on the Lyft platform, with thousands more AVs/other cities to follow.
Tesla aims to enter the emerging commercial robotaxi industry with its recently unveiled Cybercabs, backed by its Full Self-Driving software.
