Michael Lynch, 62 and a former New York police officer from Brooklyn, was shot and killed at NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital after a violent incident. Officers responded shortly before 5:30 p.m. following reports of a man armed with a sharp weapon in the hospital. Lynch was a patient who had been admitted the day before. He barricaded himself in a room with others, cut himself, threatened to kill staff and an elderly patient, and displayed a bloody weapon made from a broken toilet seat. Officers issued repeated verbal commands and deployed a stun gun before shooting him when he advanced toward them.
