Jaythan Gilder, 32, stole two pairs of diamond earrings worth $770,000 from a Tiffany & Co. store in Orlando and attempted to flee to Texas. After being pulled over by Florida Highway Patrol for a traffic violation, he was detained for resisting investigation. During the incident, Gilder swallowed the stolen earrings. An X-ray revealed these items in his digestive system. He faces grand theft and robbery charges, with authorities confirming the need to recover the items post-digestion before verifying if they are indeed the earrings.
According to the affidavit, Gilder was heard by a trooper saying in the police vehicle: "I should have thrown them out of the window."
An X-ray scan of Gilder's torso taken at the county jail revealed "foreign objects" in his digestive system, the affidavit said. "These foreign objects are suspected to be the Tiffany & Co earrings taken in the robbery."
