A Narrow Hallway Is the Star of This 1,023-Square-Foot Apartment
Briefly

The article discusses the transformation of a narrow hallway in a Milan apartment into a stylized promenade by Kick.Office studio. Emphasizing its proportions, the design includes built-in storage and a workspace, enhancing the functionality of the space. The use of dramatic colors, marble chip tiles, and restored architectural details evokes a modern yet historical ambiance. The layout was also reimagined, relocating the sleeping area for better tranquility while prioritizing the entryway as a key element leading to the living area.
The clients were unsure what to do with the hallway, but we decided that we couldn't just ignore it. Instead, we wanted to emphasize its proportions and length, turning it into a sort of promenade.
Clients increasingly want a dedicated workspace in their homes. We made the hallway more dramatic by creating a barrel vault and using a combination of milk white and intense terracotta red.
The entryway, now reimagined as a promenade, becomes the backbone of the apartment as it leads to the living area, amplifying depth through carefully chosen lighting.
False ceilings, added after the original construction, caused a loss of proportions. The layout has been entirely reimagined, with the sleeping area moved to a quieter courtyard.
