Nicola, feeling the need for more space for herself and her son Lucca, opted to tear down a 1980s infill house in Hampshire after finding its renovations unfeasible. Teaming up with architect Will Dewar, they planned a new self-build project aimed at enhancing the local aesthetic by respecting surrounding Georgian homes. The planning approval process was lengthy, taking two years, but ultimately they received permission to build a modern, efficient home that fit both her needs and the neighborhood's character.
"What we aimed to achieve was something sensitive to its location - there were two-period buildings on either side - and which was a distinct improvement on the 1980s boxy property that existed on the site."
"Obtaining planning permission was far from straightforward and took around two years, but finally... the project was given the go-ahead."
