"The benefit of removing this enclosure is to allow elk to access additional habitat, increase the species' population resilience during drought, and promote a more natural population cycle," Anne Altman, Point Reyes National Seashore superintendent, said in a statement.
"Allowing the elk and deer to roam without confinement would enhance their ability to seek new areas in times of drought or stressed resources," read the 2023 environmental assessment.
