The Witcher 4 won't arrive until at least 2027, but in the meantime, studio CD Project Red is working with Go On Board to create a new board game based on the hit series. A cooperative adventure game for one to four players, The Witcher: Legacy will focus on the events that led to the fall of the School of the Wolf. Players will take on the role of witchers seeking to unravel the conspiracy against their order, fighting monsters and exploring the kingdom of Kaedwen through a branching narrative featuring multiple scenarios.

Ada's Dream is a heavy Eurogame featuring a dice-drafting rondel as a means of interacting with three distinct mini-games. Players embody contemporaries of Ada Lovelace as they work with her to build the first computer. The game leans into this theme with a gorgeous production featuring point-scoring objectives on adorable punchcards and dual-layered gears used to form basic mathematical functions that will help calculate your final score.

Playing board games and curating a perfectly optimized shelf are, for me, two separate hobbies. In gaming, I've come to appreciate elegant designs, the kind that feel effortless to pick up but reward deeper engagement. Talisman: The Magical Quest Game's 5th Edition is steeply discounted at Amazon. Released last year for $60 to substantial fanfare, the updated version of the classic fantasy dungeon crawler is up for grabs for only $38 right now. The 37% price cut is the best yet, but like many Amazon deals, there's no way of knowing when the price will jump back up. Talisman still regularly sells for its full MSRP, so you shouldn't wait long if you want to embark on a Magical Quest.

Cyberpunk 2077: Gangs of Night City, an official strategy board game based on CD Projekt Red's hit game, is on sale for a great price for Prime Big Deal Days. Normally $110, the sci-fi strategy game is down to just $80. Amazon only has a finite number of units available, and they are selling out fast. At the time of writing on October 8, 79% of Cyberpunk 2077 board games have been claimed.

I used to play a lot of Werewolf, back when I had roommates, and I flatter myself that I got pretty good at navigating the many layers of deception and manipulation involved. The werewolves lie, but villagers also sometimes lie-to try to catch someone else in a lie. People change their stories halfway through the game. They accuse and cast aspersions; they sow chaos; they plant seeds of doubt. The game often devolves into shouting.

Throughout the game players will layer transparent bakery cards to match the recipes on order cards and earn points.

Writing board game reviews often sends reviewers down weird research paths to write, hopefully witty, introductions. Today's game Australis, follows turtles navigating the EAC, or East Australian Current (as most famously featured in Finding Nemo with Crush and Squirt). But I found EAC is a more commonly used acronym for Estimate at Completion, Equivalent Annual Cost, Election Assistance Commission, and Extended Acute Care, which now has me thinking this game is really about either turtles working in accounting or health care.

The new Ethnos: Second Edition is excellent and, in my humble opinion, worth discarding the first edition if you still have it.
