George Russell stated, 'You wouldn't want to lose Max because we all enjoy racing against him, said Russell. But he has achieved what most drivers dream of, which is winning a world championship and he has got four of them.'
I think when we decided to give him the race seat one and a half years ago, we hoped for this trajectory. The ups and downs you expect from a young driver aged 18 in the first year, and eventually by the second year [we hoped] the success would materialize and I think this is happening.
I chose my words poorly, and I understand why it upset people. I'm sorry to anyone who was offended. That's not how I want to represent myself. I have some close friends in the LGBTQ+ community who I would never want to feel less of themselves because of what I said, and that's exactly why I should hold myself to a higher standard.
The only point in which Young led this tournament was the final hole on the final day. Talk about impeccable timing. The nerves kicked in over an eight inch putt on the last, Young admitted. The hole looked really small at that point. Not so at the iconic 17th, which Young birdied three days in a row.
When I was younger I was frustrated, I was getting angry, especially when I was at Williams and finishing second to last every weekend. I was pissed off. I worked my whole life to get to F1 and now I'm at the back, and doing nothing. So I had to work on that, how do I deal with that and I came to the realisation that I just need to focus on my job.
In the short term, expectations are brutally realistic, but this is still a team intent on making noise from day one. That intent will be made clear when Cadillac unveils the livery of its first F1 car during a Super Bowl commercial Sunday. Such a move is a statement and arrival aimed as much at mainstream America as at a paddock that, for years, questioned whether the brand belonged on the grid at all.
We've been involved with the business for five years now. It's an incredible brand with lots of legacy and great values, and there's a long-term plan here. That was supported by two things last year: Carlos joining us, who obviously saw the opportunity when it came to wanting to win; and finishing fifth. And that just supported our story of going back to the top.
Drivers had eviscerated the new formula after stepping out of their cars following qualifying on Saturday; three world champions in Max Verstappen, Lewis Hamilton and Lando Norris all spoke out about the cars in various ways. Norris had said F1 had traded the best and most enjoyable cars to drive for the worst, and certainly there was a remarkably negative mood over the paddock after qualifying.
I like this car. I like this engine. Great job, Russell said over the team radio after crossing the chequered flag. Great job, everybody. It's been a long time. It's been a long time coming to have this car beneath us.
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- Kyle Busch won the pole for NASCAR's season-opening Daytona 500 to give the driver with the longest active losing streak in "The Great American Race" a shot at the victory that has escaped him his entire career. Busch is 0-for-20 in the Daytona 500 and hasn't started in the top five since 2016, when he still drove for Joe Gibbs Racing. He started fourth and finished third that year, then was a career-best second to then-teammate Denny Hamlin in 2019.
"I've been fortunate to accomplish more than I ever imagined in this sport," said Johnson, a two-time Daytona 500 champion who finished third in the 2025 season opener. "The last six years have given me the freedom to choose where I compete and, more importantly, the clarity to understand where I'm needed most. I am going to focus all of my energy on leading and building a world class organization."
