Reeves's tax cut on children's meals a political soundbite', say restaurateurs

Tim Martin, the founder and chair of the Wetherspoons pub chain, does now plan to cut the cost of the kids' menu throughout summer. The chain serves children's food including chicken nuggets and sausage and mash from 4.99 to 5.75. We will reduce prices for children's meals during this time and it will be appreciated by parents and families, he said. The hospitality sector has long called for VAT rates on food and drink to be cut in line with other European countries.

Hospitality employs 2.6 million people in the UK, 7.1% of the entire workforce. It generates £69.5 billion in gross value added. It contributes £54 billion in gross tax receipts annually. It is, by any reasonable measure, not a peripheral cottage industry but a cornerstone of the British economy.

The Struggling Restaurant Chain That Still Stays Afloat Despite 3 Bankruptcy Filings - Tasting Table

Restaurants have always been a tough business, made even more so since the COVID-19 pandemic. Restaurant bankruptcies seem to happen on a fairly regular business, even to big name chains such as Red Lobster and TGI Friday's. Filing bankruptcy (especially chapter 11 bankruptcy, which is basically a restructuring) does not necessarily mean the end of a restaurant chain. Some companies have declared bankruptcy more than once, including Friendly's, which has beat it twice and avoided total failure.
