The Great Recession, and then the pandemic, did in some of the last holdouts. But not Berkeley's Back Room, which celebrates its 10-year anniversary this month. The Back Room's survival is due to the passion of its founder, Sam Rudin, the musicians who love it and come back time after time to play there, and the commitment of audience members who know the experiences they have there are truly memorable.
Kirkwood has had a pretty solid past few days, seeing 42 inches of snow through the past 7 days, 31 of which fell in the past 48 hours. As of April 13th, Kirkwood has 5 lifts spinning with 45 of 84 trails open to skiers and snowboarders.
"I saw people who never knew each other [before] meet at the event and develop strong relationships. A lot of people came just to watch and be part of that community. That's when I knew this was special."
Calling all Bay Area Derby fans and Radio Aficionados: join us on Saturday February 28th, 2026 from 11 AM to 4 PM for our first-ever Radios and Roller Derby Fundraiser Co-hosted by the California Historical Radio Society (CHRS) and Bay Area Derby, this event will provide an unique experience where viewers can watch and learn about the historic sport of roller derby while participating in our optional fundraiser to help support our skaters and new warehouse!
