What sounded like a great plan has turned into a nightmare for me and I don't know if I have any rights or what I should do.

The fact that it took nearly nine months of litigation and a decision by the highest court of the land to obtain something as innocuous as permission for my clients to meet with a local lawyer speaks volumes about how hard the government of Eswatini is fighting to deny these men the most basic of rights.

The New York-based Legal Aid Society said it was representing one of the men, Jamaican national Orville Etoria, and that he had been "inexplicably" sent to Eswatini when his home country was willing to accept him back. The 62-year-old Etoria was convicted of a serious crime in the U.S. in 1997 and was released from prison on parole in 2021, the Legal Aid Society said in a statement. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security said in a post on X that Etoria had been convicted of murder.

Section 9 includes eight different clauses, but likely the most relevant to the Republican leadership is the right of habeas corpus. "The Privilege of the Writ of Habeas Corpus shall not be suspended, unless when in Cases of Rebellion or Invasion the public Safety may require it," reads the Constitution.

"Whatever interest the public may have in Epstein, that interest cannot justify a broad intrusion into grand jury secrecy in a case where the defendant is alive, her legal options are viable, and her due process rights remain."
