Just over a month after he was released from prison following a 16-year-long stint behind bars, Max B is back with his first new full-length in four years. The rapper has surprise-released Public Domain 7: The Purge, the seventh installment of his ongoing Public Domain mixtape series. You can listen to it below. Public Domain 7: The Purge follows Max B's 2021 album Negro Spirituals.

The 19-year-old, part of an emerging wave of UK underground rap getting hyped up like the '03 NBA draft class, has bags under his eyes. His hair is in a messy bun. He's wearing a wrinkled white tee, a colorful scarf he bought off Depop, black skinny jeans, and house slippers with the heads of stuffed teddy bears on the top.

"I did this shit in three motherfucking days, bitch! You're welcome!"

Kicking off the playlist is Filipina American indie pop singer-songwriter Lyn Lapid, who just released a candid and catchy self-worth anthem, "Buzzkill." In it, she advocates for staying home instead of being around people who don't deserve your company.

The blurriness of newstalgia, both a point of reference and discovery, makes Papaholic, Vol.1 a refreshing take on a brand of hip-hop revivalism.
