After service was suspended in both directions between Newark Penn Station and New York Penn early Friday morning, NJ Transit service is back -- although limited and facing up to 60 minute delays. The suspension is brought on by Amtrak overhead wire issues at the Portal Bridge, according to NJ Transit.
The MTA finished upgrading the Staten Island Railway fleet with all new cars in September 2025. The entire fleet of the borough's lone train line features the new, state-of-the-art subway cars known as R211S models - roughly one year after the first R211s debuted on Staten Island. The new trains replaced the older R44 cars, which were in service in the borough since 1973. It was the oldest fleet in all of New York City Transit, Crichlow noted.
E-Z Pass' plastic transponders could soon be replaced by stickers equipped with digital chips and barcodes. The change would mean no need to mount your transponder in the perfect spot, or hold it up while passing through toll plazas. First, officials say 3,000 turnpike vehicles will test out the stickers during an 8-week pilot program.
