The Sharks will see how both stack up against the defending Stanley Cup Champions today. Last time these two teams met, it ended favorably for the Sharks. San Jose won 3-1 at home with Yaroslav Askarov making 38 saves in the win. The Panthers are 25-19-3 this season, sitting seventh in the Atlantic Division and fifth in the Eastern Conference wild card race. Florida is 5-4-1 in its last 10 games. It beat the Washington Capitals 5-2 on Saturday.

Potentially needing to clear a roster spot for some soon-to-be healthy players, the San Jose Sharks on Sunday placed veteran defenseman Nick Leddy on waivers. Leddy, 34, is one of seven defensemen on San Jose's active roster. But the Sharks, who are already carrying the maximum 23 players, were soon going to be facing a roster crunch with defensemen Vincent Desharnais and Shakir Mukhamadullin both nearing a return from their respective injuries.

The Orioles announced that outfielder Jhonkensy Noel has cleared outright waivers and been assigned to Triple-A Norfolk. He will stay in Baltimore's system but without taking up a spot on the roster. The O's are one of the most aggressive clubs when it comes to claiming players from the waiver wire and then putting them back out there shortly thereafter. The desired result is that the player clears, allowing the club to keep the player in a non-roster capacity, which has happened in this case.

Rifai is working his way back from wrist surgery that has kept him sidelined for the entire season to date, and was placed on waivers on Sunday in order to report back to the American Hockey League. The 27-year-old defenceman has played in one game for the Marlies this season and had 13 points in 63 games for the AHL squad in 2024-25.

When a team designates a player for assignment, he is removed from that club's 40-man roster. The team then has a period of time with some ability to impact what is next for that player. This is colloquially referred to as "DFA limbo". The team can trade the player to another club, unless the trade deadline has passed and the new offseason has not yet begun. The team can also place the player on outright or release waivers.

The Boston Bruins bolstered some of their D-corps depth on Tuesday, plucking blueliner Vladislav Kolyachonok off waivers from the Dallas Stars. The 24-year-old Kolyachonok is a left-shot D who has appeared in 85 NHL games across parts of five seasons - including 11 games this year with Dallas. He scored a goal and added two helpers in those 11 games with the Stars, logging an average of 12:37 of ice time per contest.

The Dodgers announced that they have claimed outfielder Michael Siani off waivers from the Braves.

The Orioles have claimed outfielder Will Robertson off waivers from the Pirates, according to Jake Rill of MLB.com. There wasn't any previous indication Robertson was on the wire but it seems the Bucs tried to sneak him through waivers in order to open a 40-man spot. The Orioles swooped in to grab him, so Pittsburgh loses Robertson but they do open a roster spot, going from 39 to 38.

Wright will depart from the organization without making a big-league appearance. Kansas City acquired him in a November 2023 trade that sent Jackson Kowar to the Braves. Wright was recovering from shoulder surgery at the time. He did not throw a pitch in 2024. Wright made eight appearances at two minor-league levels in 2025, but an oblique injury ended his season in July.

That's obviously a tiny sample of work but his minor league track record also isn't great. From 2021 to 2023, he hit .233/.350/.419 on the farm. That offense translates to a 104 wRC+, indicating he was above average but barely. He struck out in 29% of his plate appearances in that time. In 2024, he had a monster .299/.372/.514 showing in Triple-A.

Colorado turned down its end of a mutual option on Estrada earlier this week, but since he has yet to accrue six years of major league service, he remained on the roster as an arbitration-eligible player. After Estrada missed most of the 2025 season due to injury and hit just .253/.285/.370 when healthy, the Rox will move on and Estrada will head to the open market in search of new opportunities.

Rempal signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Capitals this past summer after spending the 2024-25 season in the KHL with Salavat Yulaev Ufa. He impressed with the Caps during camp, with head coach Spencer Carbery even saying that he "had every argument to say that he could play in the NHL tomorrow." In his first season in the KHL, Rempal recorded 61 points (31g, 30a) in 68 regular-season games - good for fourth in the league.

The Brewers have claimed left-hander Sammy Peralta off waivers from the Angels, as announced by both teams.

There was no previous indication that either player had been designated for assignment but these kinds of moves are common at this time of year, as most clubs are facing upcoming roster crunches. The 60-day injured list goes away five days after the World Series, meaning several players need to retake 40-man spots. Some will also become free agents but many clubs often end up with more than 40 players in the mix.

I'd be surprised if he makes it through. I've had conversations with managers, and the feeling is that teams who still need backups would love to grab him off waivers because they think he can actually be a 1B, not just a backup.

The Braves announced today that five players have been sent outright to Triple-A Gwinnett. The five are outfielder Jarred Kelenic, right-handers Alexis Díaz and Dane Dunning, catcher and infielder Luke Williams. This indicates that all five players have cleared waivers in recent days. Atlanta's 40-man roster count drops to 35 for now, though they have 11 guys on the 60-day injured list.

Last season Connor Ingram started the season off well with the new franchise in Utah, posting a .882 save percentage through his 22 games played while being on a tandem with Karel Vejmelka. Ingram would then play his last game on February 22, 2025. Without a lot of explanation, Ingram was then missing from action, with the Utah club calling up Jaxson Stauber to help Vejmelka take care of the net.
