Despite a rise in job openings, the tech sector saw an increase in unemployment, rising to 2.9% in January. While tech firms added 6,787 jobs, overall US employment growth slowed to 143,000. The tech job market remains dynamic, with 220,000 new listings, 8.4% in AI-related roles. Interestingly, many tech positions do not require a traditional four-year degree, indicating an evolving employment landscape in the tech industry as employers seek foundational skills while pushing into advanced fields.
"Employers continue to balance the need for foundational tech talent and skills with the push into next-gen fields," said Tim Herbert, CompTIA's chief research officer.
"The jobs report reflects a market that continues to show sluggishness and remains challenging for those looking for new jobs. 2025 is shaping up to be another year of significant changes," said Ger Koyle, US country manager for global staffing firm ManpowerGroup.
