Nintendo's development team explored numerous names for the Switch 2 before finalizing its title. Producer Kouichi Kawamoto shared that some ideas were deemed unsuitable, such as 'Super Nintendo Switch,' to maintain consistency with original branding. The team opted for 'Nintendo Switch 2' to signify it as a new standard, emphasizing user focus over technical performance. The aim is to reach a wide audience, streamlined through an uncomplicated name. The system is scheduled for release on June 5 at $450, or $500 as part of a bundle including a popular game.

Switch 2 is a new system with improved performance, but we'd like players...to think of it as the latest system developed by Nintendo.

The name 'Switch 2' is simple and easy to understand; it was always the plan for it to be a proper successor to Switch.
