Study FINALLY settles the debate on whether cheese prompts nightmares
Briefly

A study conducted by The Odd Company found that consuming cheese before bed increases the likelihood of nightmares by 93%. Participants reported darker, more stressful dreams after eating cheese, with brie being the worst culprit, resulting in nightmares for 68% of those who ate it. The study also noted that cheese consumption led to an average sleep loss of over an hour. Experts highlight that the nutritional composition of cheese, including saturated fats and tryptophan, affects sleep quality and digestion, influencing dream content and sleep efficiency.
Amie Alexander, a registered dietitian at Nutri Peak, said: 'Cheese can affect the quality and quantity of sleep based on its nutritional composition.'
The research involved recruiting 30 participants who dined on four of the UK's most popular cheeses - brie, cheddar, stilton and mozzarella - over four nights.
They discovered that eating cheese before bed increased the likelihood of nightmares by 93 per cent.
The worst cheese for nightmares was found to be brie, which triggered nightmares in 68 per cent of people who ate it.
