What Is Good Therapy?
Briefly

Many of our patients have to learn to abandon Plato, at least for the time being. This means they have to discontinue fluctuating between believing they're devils and overcompensating with the belief that they're angels.
Although most people don't know of or think deeply about Platonic philosophy, many of us live our lives according to it. This means that we aren't satisfied with our choices when they don't match our visions of our supposed-to-be selves.
Therapy doesn’t judge people as that's shaming, but therapists should have some understanding of what decisions mean, and, in turn, they should help patients navigate their choices.
A preoccupation with self should shift from asking 'Who am I really?' to 'How have I been relating to others and how have they to me?'
When therapy is overly agreeable, patients often complain of it not working. This indicates the importance of maintaining a balance in therapeutic relationships.
