PETA's animated advert presents a humorous take on veganism through dancing cartoon feces, illustrating how a plant-based diet contributes to better digestive health. Created by Flamboyant Paradise and directed by Javier Lourenço, the ad highlights the often-overlooked benefits of veganism, supported by research on digestive issues linked to low plant intake. Unlike traditional ethical appeals for veganism, this ad adopts a light-hearted approach, making it more appealing and shareable on social media. It aims to appeal to people's self-interest in improving their gut health while providing a fun viewing experience.
"Who better than singing poo to tell you what's best for your bowels," PETA says of the ad on YouTube. "From less strain to more relief, being vegan is good sh*t."
PETA plans to use the animation on social media channels as well as in an out of home campaign and Spotify, all directing to a campaign page that provides details of the benefits of a vegan diet.
Despite the irreverent tone, the inspiration came from serious research, which suggests that many people suffer from constipation and other digestive problems due to a lack of plants in their diet.
The ad is a surprising change of direction from the usual focus on ethical arguments for a plant-based diet. It’s more attention-grabbing and fun.
